About PriorMile

PriorMile sells vehicle history reports for cars with United States history. You enter a VIN, see for free how many records exist, and pay only when there is something to read. This page says who runs the service and how it works.

Who operates PriorMile

PriorMile is a service of Infranova Limited, a company registered in Hong Kong. Infranova Limited is the operator named in the Terms of Service and the Privacy Policy, the seller on every invoice and credit note, and the controller of the personal data this site processes.

The site is published in English, Spanish, Russian and Polish, and support answers in the same four languages. Reports cover vehicles with United States history, and prices are in US dollars.

What the service does

You enter a VIN and we query our sources for that vehicle. Before anything is paid for, a free preview decodes the vehicle from the VIN itself and tells you how many records we hold in each section: title and brands, accidents and damage, odometer readings, open safety recalls, theft and lien records, sales and auction listings.

If the records look worth reading, a report is a single payment. There is no account to keep, no subscription and nothing that renews. The report is assembled at the moment you order it, from what the sources return right then, and is stored as a snapshot: it keeps what those sources said at that timestamp and is never rewritten afterwards.

The report opens in the browser and arrives as a PDF by email together with an invoice; the online copy stays available for 90 days. Packs of several reports exist for people who check more than one car, and pack credits do not expire. Everything is priced in US dollars and shown in full before you pay.

What the service does not do

Being exact about the limits is worth more than a longer list of features.

  • We are not a government body and not a motor-vehicle agency. We read official title records through a licensed data provider, and we are not affiliated with any government agency, with NHTSA or with the National Insurance Crime Bureau.
  • We do not inspect cars. A report holds what was reported to our sources, so damage repaired privately and never claimed leaves no trace in any database. A report lowers the risk of a purchase; it does not replace a mechanic or a pre-purchase inspection.
  • We do not look up people. A VIN identifies a vehicle, and we neither hold nor sell information about who owns one.
  • We do not handle your card details. Payment happens on the payment provider's own page, and the card number never reaches our servers.

Where the report data comes from

Four kinds of source, each of them named:

  • Official title records - the national title database that state motor-vehicle agencies, insurers and salvage yards are required to report into: title issuances by state, title brands such as salvage, rebuilt, flood and junk, and total-loss reporting. We access it through a licensed data provider.
  • NHTSA - the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's public safety-recall data, matched to the vehicle, so you can see what the manufacturer still has to fix free of charge.
  • Theft records - theft, recovery and export records of the kind the National Insurance Crime Bureau aggregates from its member insurers.
  • Auction, insurer and listing data - salvage-auction listings, often with damage photographs, insurer total-loss records, and dealer and marketplace listing history with advertised mileage and prices.

How a report is produced

  1. You enter a VIN. We validate its format and its check digit and decode the manufacturer's own encoding, so you can confirm that the make, model and year match the car in front of you before anything else happens.
  2. We query the sources for that VIN and show you, at no charge, how many records came back in each section.
  3. If you buy, the report is built from that live data rather than from a stored copy, and saved as a snapshot that does not change afterwards.
  4. The report opens in your browser in about a minute, and the PDF and the invoice are emailed to you.
  5. The online copy stays available for 90 days, and every report you have bought is listed under My reports when you sign in with the email address used for the order.

Two rules we hold ourselves to

No records, no sale

If the free preview finds zero records in every section, the purchase is blocked: there is no buy button, and the order is refused if it is submitted another way. The VIN decode and the recall check stay free in that case, and you can try another VIN straight away. We would rather not take the money than refund it.

No automatic refunds

Nothing decides a refund automatically. When something goes wrong you write to support, and a person reads the message and decides. Which cases we refund and which we do not is written out in the Refund Policy, so it is a rule you can read before you buy rather than a decision made about you afterwards.
